Some projects start with a camera.
Others start with data.
This one started with both.
For this project, we were provided with a substantial set of technical inputs including LiDAR point cloud data, aerial photography, geospatial boundary files and detailed underground information. This included banded iron formation modelling, gold grade shells, drill hole CSV datasets and pit shells. All of this data formed the foundation for a highly detailed 3D animation that accurately represented the geology and scale of the operation.
But data alone does not tell the full story.
To complement the technical visuals, we travelled to the 1.4Moz Mt York deposit in Western Australia’s Pilbara to capture real world context. Filming took place across a full 24 hour operational cycle, allowing us to document both the scale of the site and the people driving it forward. We also worked with the onsite team to deliver a clear project update directly to camera.
Seeing the progress first hand was genuinely exciting. Standing on site and watching a complex operation run around the clock, set against the Pilbara landscape, adds a layer of understanding that can’t be replicated from plans or models alone.
Turning Complex Inputs into a Clear Narrative
One of the key challenges with technically rich projects is balance. The data needs to be accurate and credible, but the story still needs to be accessible.
By combining 3D animation built from real site data with sweeping drone footage and on camera updates from the team, we were able to create a clear and engaging narrative. The final result was an approximately four minute video that communicated progress, scale and confidence without overwhelming the viewer.
This approach allows technical stakeholders, investors and broader audiences to engage with the project at different levels while still taking away the same core message.
The Result
The finished video blends precise technical visualisation with cinematic aerials and authentic onsite storytelling. It reflects not only where the project is today, but the momentum behind it.
Projects like this are a reminder that effective mining communications are not just about visuals or data in isolation. They are about bringing both together in a way that builds understanding and trust.
If you are working on a resource project where complex data needs to be communicated clearly and credibly, we would be happy to talk.
Alongside the video, we produced a suite of dynamic photos that showcased the Kairos team in action.
