Filming in the waste management industry can present visual challenges, it’s not always the most scenic of environments. However, with the right approach we knew we could turn practical operations into a story worth watching. This Cleanaway Karratha video case study highlights how strong visuals and storytelling can bring industrial operations to life.
Cleanaway is a waste management company, and has a focus on mining decommissioning in Karratha, Western Australia. We were asked to create a video that not only showcased Cleanaway’s capabilities, but to provide a case study of the unique offerings targeted to the mining industry.
What truly made this shoot shine was the Karratha team themselves. They were a great bunch of people to work with, they were knowledgeable, had great energy, and clearly took pride in what they do.
We spoke to Michelle Laffy, Cleanaway’s Branch Manager for the North West WA region, based in Karratha. Additional key interviews in this film include Operations Manager Shannon Carroll, Project Manager Ryan Dack, Branch Manager Ben Hunter and Tech Supervisor Sean Harrington.
Approach & Filming Method
Filming took place over just two days, with Jeremy and Bernard leading the charge on both video and photography. To get this right, we threw everything at the shoot:
Sony FX6: for crisp interviews and cinematic long shots
Mavic 3 drone: for tracking the trucks through remote landscapes
GoPros: positioned safely within restricted and hazardous zones for a first-hand perspective
Steadicam: to follow the crew and action with smooth, flowing movement
We delivered a complete video case study, tightly edited and ready for presentation at a key industry conference in the Pilbara. Alongside the film, we produced a suite of dynamic photos that showcased the Cleanaway team in action.
